Liam's Baby Blessing Ceremony
Excerpt from Welcome
Thank you so much for being part of this special gathering! We are here today to bless baby Liam and formally welcome him into Katherine’s family, and to bless Katherine, too…acknowledging the mother she’s become and the family Kath and Liam will always have in each other.
This ceremony is an invitation to all of you to watch over Liam as he grows. Everyone here is an important part of the community in which this family will grow over a lifetime, and each of you has a meaningful place in Kath and Liam’s lives. After the ceremony there will be more time for connecting and taking pictures and there will also be an opportunity to contribute to a baby blessing book where you can add your thoughts and musings, give a little object or token, and offer your wishes, hopes, prayers and blessings for Liam.
Excerpt from Community Blessing
One of the beautiful things about children is the way they bring together not just a family, but also a community. They say, “It takes a village to raise a child,” and indeed, it does. And so let us take this time to formally welcome Liam into this larger family and community of friends who support and love him. As we do, let this be a message to you, too, Katherine, that you are never alone, and that there are always people to help and support you. Would everyone please repeat after me?
Liam, we love you.
We bless you.
And we accept you
Exactly the way you are.
Excerpt from Closing Reading
As we bring this blessing ceremony to a close, I want to thank all of you for making time to be here today, and for helping create such a meaningful ritual for Katherine and Liam. Kath, would you like to close the ceremony with a reading?
I cannot promise you a life of sunshine;
I cannot promise riches, wealth or gold;
I cannot promise you an easy pathway
That leads away from change or growing old.
But I can promise all my heart's devotion
A smile to chase away your tears of sorrow;
A love that's ever true and ever growing;
A hand to hold in yours through each tomorrow.
~ “These I Can Promise" by Mark Twain
