Mother Blessings and Blessingways
Mother blessings and blessingway rituals mark the significance of pregnancy and the birth process, gathering your dearest ones to honor and bless your sacred transition into motherhood. The ceremony can be an important turning point in your emotional, physical and spiritual readiness for birth and parenthood.
"I can't thank you enough for the sacred ceremony you created. Your warmth, sensitivity and ability to accommodate anything I envisioned was such a relief."
Pregnancy is a time unlike any other. Yana Cortlund, co-author of Mother Rising: The Blessingway Journey Into Motherhood, writes, "Birth is a key life passage for women. But modern culture has become preoccupied with the arrival of the baby-to-be and has lost touch with birth's profound impact on the expectant mother." Typical showers often emphasize games and presents for the baby, while mother blessings and blessingway ceremonies are designed for the mother-to-be. Friends and loved ones gather to support and honor the mother, offering strength and encouragement as she embarks on her journey. Here are a few ideas to consider: "Hannah gracefully led me through reflections and preparations that allowed me to find more clarity and meaning in the ceremony than I had even anticipated." |

There are many other possibilities for mother blessing ceremonies, such as rituals to cleanse, purify and pamper the expectant mother, collaborative art projects like collage and painting, writing in a blessing book, creating a birth altar and, of course, sharing birth stories, words of wisdom and well wishes for the mother-to-be.
You may want to invite ten people or two. Maybe you want to include your partner, if present, or perhaps not. It may feel best to gather in your home, or you might envision a magical spot in nature. There is no "right way" to have a blessingway, and the needs of every mother and family is unique. Starting at $350, my fee varies depending on the size and complexity of your ceremony. Sliding scale and pay-what-you-can options can be discussed during our initial consultation, which is always available at no charge. |
