Meredith & Andi's Wedding Ceremony
Excerpt from Couple's Story
On June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court declared equal protection for same-sex marriages throughout the United States. In his majority opinion, Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote, “No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. [The petitioners] respect [the benefits and significance of marriage] so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right.”
Love is a temporary madness, it erupts like volcanoes
And then subsides.
And when it subsides you have to make a decision.
You have to work out whether your roots have so entwined together
that it is inconceivable that you should ever part.
Because this is what love is.
Love is not breathless, it is not excitement,
it is not the promulgation of eternal passion.
That is just being "in love" which any fool can do.
Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away,
and that is both an art and a fortunate accident.
Those that truly love, have roots that grow towards each other underground,
and when all the pretty blossoms have fallen from the branches,
they find that they are one tree and not two.

Excerpt from Minister's Address to the Couple
Meredith and Andi, since your paths first crossed, you have formed an eternal bond. You lives are now entwined. You will share your life as individuals, yes; but from this day forward, deeply and lovingly united.
As author Daphne Rose Kingma wrote, “In promising always, you promise each other time. You promise to exercise your love, to stretch it large enough to embrace the unforeseen realities of the future. You promise to learn to love beyond the level of your instincts and inclinations, to love in foul weather as well as fair, in hard times as well as when you are exhilarated by the joys of romance."
Excerpt from Handfasting Ritual
As your hands are clasped together now, so your lives and spirits are joined in a union of love and trust. For always, you hold in your own hands the fate of this union. Above you are stars and below you is earth. Like stars, your love should be a steady source of light, and like the earth, a firm foundation from which to grow. May these hands be blessed this day. May they always hold each other, and may you always return to this togetherness.
